Wow, it’s so cool to see some retrospective insight on some of the inner workings of CN during that time!
I was never really into Cartoon Network until 2020, right after the Lockdown happened. By that time, I really got into Adventure Time and Regular Show, and from there I started binging all of the other awesome CN classics like Samurai Jack, the Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, the Amazing World of Gumball, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends and Powerpuff Girls.
With all the stuff going on with the animation industry, especially CN, you can’t help but feel this melancholy nostalgia for what was, and there’s a part of me that wishes I grew up on CN (especially during its Silver Age) as it feels like it was such a fun, amazing time to be alive and that I missed out. But at the same time, I’m glad I got into it all when I did because I know I can appreciate it all more than I probably would have as a kid, especially with how inspiring it’s been for me as an aspiring creator.
Thank you so much for reading, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! :)
I also started watching CN a little later than most (I started in high school) but so many of the shows have since burrowed a special place in my heart! I don't know what the future looks like for the studio but I really hope they focus on green-lighting original, artist-driven stories - that's what made CN so special!
Thank you so much for writing this! I loved reading it. It sounds like such a special time in your life, and it’s so wonderful to hear about a place that has a kind, fun, welcoming culture. People really make all the difference in a working environment, no? And your work is phenomenal, especially your use of color ❤️
It's so awesome to read this. I work out of the techwood office and for years CN was 3 floors above mine. It was always one of the most fun floors to visit. I'm so glad you got an opportunity to work with such a great group of people.
They painted over all our murals on campus as well. It was incredibly sad.
Thanks for reading!! :) Aw man, that sucks they painted over your murals as well... I'd love to know what companies get out of making their offices worse places to be :(
Subscribed after reading this, thanks for sharing your experience! The process of breaking into the industry, especially nowadays, seems uncertain and nerve-wracking. But this was very inspiring and gives me hope that despite the anxiety of it all, it’s possible! May I ask, during your transition from college to an intern, did you have moments of doubt or nervousness? How did you overcome (or manage) this if so?
Aw thank you so much for reading and subscribing, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!
I was definitely pretty nervous leading up to the internship! Although I feel confident in my work as an artist, I can have anxiety about social situations and it takes me a while to become fully comfortable around strangers. I knew the internship would involve meeting a lot of new people and socializing, and I did occasionally worry about making good first impressions.
Despite that, I tried not to dwell too much on negative thoughts, and just live in the moment and make the most out of the experience. I figured that regardless of if anything would come of it afterwards, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I might as well enjoy it to the fullest!
Thank you for sharing this! Love hearing about these kind of things! Always wanted to do an internship like this, but alas College was not in the cards. I did manage to intern for a comic publisher (the only one not in school who made it as an intern) and am actually doing one for my day job right now. My day job usually never includes writing, but I got to do a lot of it in my internship. Sorry went on about myself, but I subscribed excited to read more posts!

I should definitely practice that more, living in the moment and pushing negativity aside x). Appreciate the advice!
